The Chelchele washing station is located in the Gedeb district of the Yirgacheffe coffee region. This area features a mild climate, with average temperatures between 15.5°C and 17.8°C and annual rainfall of 1,404 mm. The fertile red/brown soil supports shade trees like Cordia Africana and Acacia. Spanning 5.1 hectares and sitting at an elevation of 1,945 to 1,970 meters, the Chelchele washing station is equipped with 12 washing tanks and 360 drying beds. It uses a natural processing method, where ripe cherries from smallholder farmers are hand-sorted and dried on raised beds for up to 21 days. Once dried, the coffee is sent to Addis Ababa for processing at Tracon Trading’s 30,000-square-foot facility, where it is milled, sorted, and prepared for export.
